Aurora Central High School Students Awarded Debt-Free Scholarships

Six Aurora Central High School students will be receiving debt-free scholarships thanks to the Community College of Aurora Foundation. These students do not yet know they are recipients of the new scholarship and will be surprised at the event. The new program, Aurora Gives Scholars, is committed to advancing America’s college promise while addressing the nation’s student loan crisis.

In its pilot year, the Aurora Gives Scholars program will provide six high-achieving seniors with debt-free access to a two-year associate degree from the Community College of Aurora. In exchange, scholarship recipients agree not to withdraw student loans or other sources of financial aid that require repayment, during their participation in the Aurora Gives Scholars program.

The scholarship program is the first of its kind in Colorado. It was made possible thanks to a unique partnership between the Community College of Aurora Foundation and the Aurora LIGHTS Health Sciences Pathway at Aurora Central High School.

Aurora Gives Scholars is a local response to the mounting crisis of student loan debt in the United States, which exceeds $1.2 trillion. Friday marks the launch of a public campaign to raise $500,000 for Aurora Gives Scholars, which will provide 100 scholarships to Community College of Aurora in 2016.
