APS Board of Education Executive Session

On Tuesday, June 17, 2014, the Aurora Public Schools Board of Education is expected to recess into executive session under the authority of C.R.S. 24-6-402(4)(f)(I) to discuss a personnel matter, specifically the superintendent’s evaluation.

The executive session will be held from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in conference room A at Educational Services Center 4, 1085 Peoria Street, Aurora, CO 80011.

Children’s Hospital Colorado Staff Gives
APS School Extreme Makeover

On Friday, June 6, Children’s Hospital Colorado employees won’t just be saving lives – they will be enriching APS students’ lives. Nearly 100 Children’s Colorado staff volunteers will join dozens of other volunteers at Jewell Elementary School at 8 a.m. to give the school a landscape makeover.\

This is the eighth year APS has partnered with Children’s Hospital Colorado on this school improvement community project:

Montview Math & Health Sciences Elementary – 2007
North Middle School Health Sciences & Technology Campus – 2008

South Middle – 2011

Hinkley High School To Host Governor For Safe2Tell Bill Signing

Hinkley High School to host Governor for bill signing

Aurora Public Schools and Hinkley High School are pleased to host Governor John Hickenlooper for the signing of SB14-002 “Safe2Tell Program in Dept. of Law”.

     WHAT: Governor Hickenlooper signs SB-14-002
     WHEN: Wednesday, May 21, 9:30 a.m.
     WHERE: Hinkley High School 1250 Chambers Rd., Aurora

This bill incorporates Safe2Tell under the Colorado Office of the Attorney General. It also provides the necessary funding to ensure that the Safe2Tell reporting tip line, trainings, education and awareness efforts are available to Colorado students, schools, and communities.  Colorado legislators voted unanimously to pass this critical legislation, showing a bipartisan effort to create safer schools and communities.

Media may join Governor Hickenlooper, State Attorney General John Suthers, State Senate President Morgan Carroll, State Speaker of the House Mark Ferrandino, State Senator Bill Cadman and Hinkley High School for this momentous occasion.

Hinkley students will also be showcasing their Restorative Justice program that seeks to help students resolve conflicts on their own. The students will take part in a short role play after the bill signing.

Lieutenant Governor Launches “Colorado Literacy Week"
APS to Host Kick-Off Event

Aurora Public Schools is pleased to host Colorado Lieutenant Governor Joe Garcia for a kick-off to “Colorado Literacy Week.” Lieutenant Governor Garcia will make his proclamation at Vaughn Elementary School on May 19. Colorado Literacy Week is scheduled May 19-23.

Media may join Lieutenant Governor Garcia and Vaughn Elementary students, parents and staff. Vaughn is also celebrating its “Parent Literacy Academy” that teaches parents how to support their children’s reading and writing development. With summer vacation approaching, Aurora Public Schools and Vaughn staff are committed to helping parents support their students during the vacation months.

Following the proclamation, the lieutenant governor will join students and parents during a literacy activity.
