Gateway High School Students Team Up with Aurora Police to Call for Unity

Gateway High School students are teaming up with officers from the Aurora Police Department to host a unity basketball game. Students from both the boys and girls basketball teams will take part along with members of APD’s competitive mixed basketball team.

No matter the final score, every student, officer and community member who attends is a winner. Gateway students are excited to unite with police officers and continue their work in strengthening community ties.

Basketball coach Jason Dixon organized the event. He believes this game is an important step in breaking down the invisible walls that sometimes exist between community members.

The basketball game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 20. It will be held in Gateway High School’s gym. The event will also include a silent auction.

Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Aurora Police Explorer Program, which is designed for young adults who are interested in pursuing careers in law enforcement.
