APS Middle School Girls Star in Tech Camp

Men outnumber women in nearly every scientific field by college graduation. According to a recent report from the Census Bureau, only about a quarter of workers in science, technology, engineering and math fields (STEM) are women. Aurora Public Schools is committed to tackling the dramatic underrepresentation of women in STEM.

APS is hosting its sixth annual Girls Technology Camp and more than 80 students are planning to participate. The day-long event takes girls through a series of workshops that include:

  • Coding: Girls will learn computer coding with robots and gaming and create an Android app to install and use.
  • Snap Circuits: Girls will learn how to assemble and discover how circuits play a vital role in technology.
  • Netbook Quest: Girls will navigate through what makes a Netbook work by taking it apart and reassembling it.
  • 3-D Design Challenge: Girls will design and build houses in a virtual community within Minecraft.

The camp will be held on April 7 at the Professional Learning and Conference Center, located at 15771 E. 1st Ave., Aurora, 80011.  Media is welcome to attend at 9 a.m.
