APS Board of Education Hosts Town Hall Meeting
The APS Board of Education is inviting community members to a Town Hall Meeting to discuss the future of Aurora Central High School.
For the last five years, the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) has assigned Aurora Central a Priority Improvement / Turnaround plan. This assigned plan is based on low student achievement, including state assessment scores and growth data. Aurora Central is one of 30 schools across the state in such a position. When a school is assigned a Priority Improvement / Turnaround plan, the CDE begins what is called an "Accountability Clock" for the school to make changes to move out of Priority Improvement / Turnaround status.
When any school is in its fifth year of having a Priority Improvement / Turnaround plan without significant gains in achievement or growth, the Education Accountability Act of 2009 requires the school district to explore possible alternatives to the current school structure. The CDE will consider these alternatives and recommend one for the school to implement in the 2016-17 school year.
