WHAT: Start of school activities – superintendent rides the bus and eats breakfast with students, followed by a press conference with the City of Aurora

Celebrate the 2012-2013 School Year!
APS and City Partners Unveil “Aurora Compact”

Thursday, August 9 will be a busy day for APS Superintendent John L. Barry. He will begin his day by riding a school bus with students. Next, he will eat breakfast with staff and students. Finally, Superintendent Barry will unveil a new partnership with the City of Aurora. 

Members of the media are welcome to attend any of the following activities:

  • 5–6:30 a.m. – morning show live shots
    • Superintendent Barry will be available for interviews at the APS Transportation Department, 160 Airport Boulevard, 80011
    • Live truck parking available between APS Transportation Department office and school bus lot
  • 6:42 a.m. departure – school bus ride along
    • Media can ride a school bus with Superintendent Barry from the APS Transportation Department, 160 Airport Boulevard, 80011
  • 8:45 a.m. – breakfast with students
    • Superintendent Barry will eat breakfast with students and staff at Sixth Avenue Elementary School, 560 Vaughn Street 80011
  • 10 a.m. – formal announcement of “Aurora Compact” – press conference
    • Superintendent Barry, Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan, APS students and staff will speak at the new Aurora Hills Middle School, 1009 South Uvalda Street 80012

Aurora Public Schools and the City of Aurora are working together to combine resources and personnel to support a new partnership called the Aurora Compact. This effort provides APS students with a practical, hands-on, experiential learning environment where classroom learning can be applied within the city’s workforce and local government. This partnership further enhances Aurora Public Schools Academic and Career Pathways.

Expected attendees at the press conference include APS Leadership Team and Board of Education members, City of Aurora dignitaries and students.
