“Catalyst” Art Show to Feature High School Students’ Talent

Across the nation, state and local governments are cutting funding for the arts. Just recently, Congress designated the Department of Education’s $40 million Arts in Education program for cuts. Yet in Colorado, art is still thriving at most schools.

In support of the arts, APS is holding the First Annual East Metro Athletic Conference High School Art Show, dubbed “Catalyst.” It will feature the artistic talents of students from APS high schools and nine other high schools in the metro area. The exhibit will showcase drawing, photography, mixed media, painting, design, sculpture, jewelry and ceramics.

An awards reception will take place at the APS Professional Learning and Conference Center on March 24 at 4:30 p.m. The event is open to media and the public.

The reception will honor award-winning art students in a variety of categories and will recognize the best 2D and 3D art pieces in the show. One student will receive an $8,000 scholarship from Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design.

The Rangeview High School choir and chamber orchestra will provide live music at the reception.
