Book Trust Receives $26,880 from Morgridge Family Foundation
to Start Program in Aurora Public Schools

Book Trust, a Fort Collins based non-profit organization, is receiving a grant for $26,880 from the Morgridge Family Foundation to start the program at five of the highest need schools in Aurora Public Schools.

“Through this program, each first grader attending Altura, Crawford, Elkhart, Montview and Paris elementary schools will be able to shop for, choose and buy books every month of the school year. This means 480 first graders will be building their home libraries. We can’t begin to tell you how valuable this is for our students,” said Aurora Public Schools Superintendent John L. Barry.

Book Trust works to remove the literacy gap for children dealing with poverty. Each month during the school year, participants shop for, choose and purchase their own fiction and non-fiction selections that are delivered to their classrooms.

Book Trust participants build their own home libraries with books they love to read, changing the literacy culture both at home and at school. The program reaches 20,000 children in eight states. Scholastic Book Clubs is the order and distribution vehicle for the program.

Book Trust is a non-profit that provides a means to literacy through growing a child’s passion for reading. By providing children in poverty with the rights and advantages that come with owning books they choose, the program increases literacy skills, vocabulary development and inspires self motivation to read.
